Brrr! How Can I Prep My Pad and Block Out Those Winter Chills? Winter is just around the corner, so it’s time to start thinking about ways to keep your apartment warm and cozy. Winterizing your apartment helps you to keep the heat inside, blocks the cold from getting in, and can even save you money on your utility bills. Here are some tips to help you get started. Start with the Windows - You can buy at-home window winterization kits to prevent heat loss from the main culprit in every home and apartment: The windows. All you need is a hot air blow-dryer to install the kit. These inexpensive kits create a pocket of air between the see-through plastic and the glass of a window, which acts as an extra layer of insulation.
Stop That Front Door Draft - A bean bag door sweep is a simple and inexpensive solution to that cold draft that creeps in beneath everyone’s front door. It’s a long, slender cloth bag filled with sand or other materials. Simply place it on the floor in front of the door and that chilly draft is a thing of the past!
Don’t Forget the Ceiling Fan - Ceiling fans aren’t just for cooling your apartment in the summer. Every ceiling fan has a switch on the side that can be flipped to reverse the fan’s direction. (Turn the fan off first!) Fan blades should spin counterclockwise in the summer, or clockwise in the winter to push warm air downward.
FUN APARTMENT IDEAS:
Have Fun Decorating Your Balcony or Patio for Halloween With These 5 Tips Halloween is just around the corner. If you haven’t spruced up your apartment for the holiday yet, you still have time to create a unique look that will be fun for you, your neighbors and visitors to enjoy.
1. Start with a Pumpkin. It’s fun to carve a fresh pumpkin from the market into a scary Halloween jack-o’-lantern. You can position it facing out on your balcony to set a festive mood. Use a battery powered electronic LED “candle” instead of a burning candle inside.
2. Perch a life-size, plastic skeleton to lean on your balcony to bring a scary ambiance to your apartment’s exterior. For a more scary presentation, arrange the skeleton in a strange pose.
3. Hang a giant rubber spider in the corner of your patio. It will dangle from a thin string, moving in the breeze to make for a more menacing dwelling. Add strings or yarn to make a big spider web near this rubber creature.
4. Put some Halloween-themed vinyl stickers on your balcony’s sliding glass door or windows. From spooky bats to monsters to images of ghosts, vinyl is easy to stick on and peal off, making for a quick decoration job.
5. Set up some blinking orange string lights, preferably solar powered for convenience, just as you would hang twinkling lights on the balcony for the December holiday season. Stay Safe! Remember that it’s safer to use battery powered LED lights instead of lit candles for Halloween décor. You won’t have to worry about monitoring the light flickering inside your jack-o’- lantern when it’s from an electronic source!
SEASONAL RECIPE:
Baked S’mores Casserole S’mores are usually reserved for campfires but who says you can’t indulge any old day? S’mores in the oven are the perfect way to enjoy them any time of the year.
