Tips for Living, Laughing and Loving Your Apartment Life

Brighten up Your Table with Beautiful Centerpieces

Turkey day is fast approaching! To make your Thanksgiving an event to remember, beautify your apartment with beautiful centerpieces. A lovely centerpiece serves as a focal point for the meal and can even spark comments from your friends, family and neighbors. If you haven’t made a centerpiece before or if you want to improve your centerpiece crafting skills, here are some tips to help you brighten up Thanksgiving with a fantastic centerpiece that really suits your sense of style.

~ Gourds and Pinecones: Show off the beauty of nature by crafting together a centerpiece made out of decorative gourds and pinecones. Add some other dried items, including colorful autumnal leaves.

~ Flowers In Pumpkin-shaped Vases: Find some pumpkin-shaped vases and use them to hold beautiful flowers to serve as a centerpiece at your plate-laden table.

~ LED Autumnal Leaves Centerpiece: LED lights will add a modern touch to your new Thanksgiving centerpiece. Since they don’t emit heat, there’s no need to be concerned about this type of illumination in your centerpieces.

~ Rustic Bundles of Wheat: Gather together bundles of wheat (available in crafting store or online). Hold the wheat with colored string or twine to make bundles, then trim them to be all the same size. Then you can mount them upright or position them under glass (referred to as a cloche). The centerpiece you put on your table this Thanksgiving will be a lovely complement to the beautiful, tasty food you serve to your guests. It doesn’t take long to make a centerpiece, and the way it boosts the ambiance in your home will make the effort so worthwhile! Have a Great Thanksgiving!

Seasonal Recipe:

Ready-In-Minutes PB & Banana Oatmeal

2 cups water 1 cup rolled oats

Pinch of salt

1 banana, sliced

1 tbsp. peanut butter

Handful of chopped almonds

Drizzle with maple syrup

In a medium saucepan, bring the water to a boil.

Turn the heat down to low and add the oatmeal and salt. Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 5 minutes, until the oats are tender and have absorbed most of the liquid. Add the bananas, peanut butter, almonds, and syrup and stir to incorporate evenly. If the oatmeal is too thick, add a splash of milk. Yum-yum!

Fun Fact: Cold water is just as cleansing as hot water!

How Can I Meet New People?

Don’t Be Lonely! Make Some New Friends Today

If you are new in town and don’t really know many people here, there’s no need to fret about the lack of socializing! Anyone who is feeling lonely can get out there and encounter all kinds of folks. Here are tips for meeting people to help you make new friends.

1. Volunteer: There’s nothing like doing good for others to help you find new friends to spend time with. The fact that you are volunteering shows that you are a friendly person worth getting to know better.

2. Find Friends in Religion: A great way to make friends with people who share your core values and beliefs is to join a religious group. You can find notices about such groups at local churches, synagogues and mosques, for example, as well as online.

3. Get Involved With a Book Club: If you already love to read, you’re ahead of the game. People love to discuss books they have finished, to get other individuals’ perspectives, and perhaps some unique insight.

4. Take a Class: Think back to the friends you made during high school and college. Friendship is easy to cultivate in between classes, no matter how old you are. Here’s hoping that one or more of these time-tested ideas will be helpful in you socializing more, meeting some fun and interesting people that will blossom into new friendships.

APARTMENT LIVING TIP:

Want to Save More Money Online During the Shopping Season? These days, it’s important to shop wisely so that you can get the most value for your dollar. As we head into the prime shopping season of the year, it’s more important than ever to find ways to save money. Keep these tips in mind before you open up your wallet or add items to your online shopping cart.

1. Dynamic Pricing: Based on your previous shopping history as well as your location (does this customer live in a wealthy neighborhood?), the site may show you higher prices than you’d typically pay. Try emptying your web browser history and clear out cookies. You also need to log out of your various accounts, such as Facebook, which help track who you are when visiting stores. Try browsing a store with your friend’s computer or smartphone to see any differences!

2. Something Goes on Sale Right After You Buy It: You found the perfect item and purchased it on Wednesday but the next day, you notice that the store advertises a lower price. Contact the store and ask if they’ll reimburse you for the difference. Savvy store owners will do this to help keep customers loyal and coming back for more.

3. Extending the Deadline of a Money-Saving Coupon: You clip out a coupon, or receive a coupon code online, but you get sidetracked and forget to use the code before it expires. Get in touch with the store’s customer service department and ask them politely if they will still honor the coupon. After all, if the store was willing to discount the product all week long, it won’t really hurt their bottom line if they extend this favor to you.
